In 1898 Milwaukee used to throw a party called the Milwaukee Carnival that was known as the "Mardi Gras of the Midwest" Now 115 years later........
In 1898 the Mayor of Milwaukee David Rose decided that Milwaukee needed to throw a huge party to celebrate Wisconsin’s 50th year as a state. A group of young businessmen created an association titled the Carnival Association. Their efforts along with Rose’s created an event that rivaled Mardi Gras called the Milwaukee Carnival. Thousands of people would come to Milwaukee for a week long event that included parades, concerts, pageants, fire department competitions, fireworks and one huge party. The Association ran out of steam and the event only lasted 4 years ending in 1902.
Michael Sampson Events and Weekend Natives have teamed up to give a modern spin on a historical Milwaukee Event. Their goal is to bring back some of the historical aspects of the Milwaukee Carnival by kicking off the first annual event and celebrating the return of a forgotten Milwaukee Festival 115 years later. The event will take place at the Horny Goat Hideaway and will include performances by Local Bands, DJs, and Dead Mans Carnival.
